Roseville Children's Martial Arts
As a martial arts instructor I believe it is up to our dojo (school) to provide an environment for children that will stimulate and nurture their ability to learn and grow in a positive way. I have been teaching the martial arts since Nov. 5th 1977 when Master Martin Gatlin, two of my brothers and myself opened a school in Ypsilanti Michigan. Joslin's Martial Arts been instructing students ranging from age 4 to adult (our oldest student retired at age 93) in Auburn since 1989 and Roseville since 1993.
Most of the time, when people think of karate, the first thing that comes to mind is punching, kicking and yelling. There is, however, so much more to the martial arts than the physical aspect. As part of our karate program, not only is our goal to increase a child's strength, coordination and flexibility. We also focus on developing the principles of self-discipline, self-control and self-esteem. These attributes, when instilled at an early age, will follow them throughout their lives. A large part of our instruction time is aimed at teaching children how to follow directions, as well as developing their concentration and listening skills. In addition, one of the main reasons we are so successful is that we blend learning with, "lots of fun."
Many children prefer an individual sport over team sports because if they practice diligently, are good listeners, put tremendous effort in class, They will be the one to excel and develop the pride and self confidence that comes with reaching a personal goal.. Here at Joslin's Martial Arts in Roseville nobody is a bench warmer.
Another thing we've come to understand through the over 40 years of teaching both children and adults is the mental and physical are not two separate things. If we don't take care of ourselves physically by eating healthy foods, getting plenty of rest, and staying on a healthy exercise regiment, it certainly is difficult to maintain a positive attitude. But that's only part of the equation.
We need to protect and develop our mental health as well by setting and accomplishing goals and avoiding negative and hurting things others say. Someone may be one of the most physically fit people in the world, but without confidence or due to low self esteem they don't even try new things, chances are they won't really enjoy the benefits of good health anyway.
Joslin's Martial Arts works on harmonizing the mental and physical health of our students. We teach self-defense skills and fundamental athletic skills as well as the self esteem skills of the martial arts which include self confidence, self discipline, positive thinking, respect, focus and those good manners.
I can tell you anything but there is only one way for you to believe and that is to come in and check us out! Be my guest for 2 free weeks of exciting classes.
